LUMBER GETS THE HEADLINE BECAUSE IT IT'S A COMMODITY LAUNCH LIKE FUEL IS AND IT SPIKES UP AND DROPS.
NOT AS MUCH IS WHAT THE HEADLINES MAKE.
THE OTHER PRODUCTS THAT HAVE HAD SHORTAGES IN THE ENERGY CRISIS THAT'S OCCURRING HAS DRIVEN THOSE PRICES UP.
THE SIDING, ROOFING, DECKING, CARPETING.
THE FURNACES.
ACROSS THE BOARD WE CONTINUE TO GET PRICE INCREASES ALMOST WEEKLY.
IT HAS NOT LEVELED OUT.
YOU SEE SOMETHING DROP, YOU DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION SOMETHING ELSE ROSE ON YOU.
>> SO THERE IS STILL A LOT OF VOLATILE -- VOLATILITY THERE.
ALL RIGHT.
BUILDERS WERE ALSO VERY BUSY THIS TIME OF YEAR WITH SOME PROJECTS BEING BOOKED OUT A YEAR OR TWO IN ADVANCE.
HAS THAT KIND OF CHANGED OR ARE WE STILL KIND OF SEEING THAT SAME PATTERN?
>> WE ARE STILL SEEING A PATTERN OF BEING QUITE A WAYS OUT.
PART OF THAT IS BEING SHUT DOWN DURING THE COVID CRISIS AND HONESTLY WE NEVER CAUGHT UP AND A LOT OF PEOPLE NEVER DID.
IT'S FUNNY, SOMETIMES WHEN WE ARE DOING A PROJECT AND IT MIGHT BE OUTDOORS AND IT RAINS AND PEOPLE THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE A ONE-DAY DELAY.
IN OUR WORLD IF IT RAINS AND WE SHIFT GEARS AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, THAT'S TWO WEEKS.
IS VERY DIFFICULT TO ACCOMMODATE FOR ALL OF THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT CHANGE DURING OUR WORLD.
NOW IT'S NOT UNCOMMON TO BE FOUR TO SIX TO EIGHT TO TWO YEARS OUT DEPENDING ON WHAT THE PROJECT IS.

WE WORK IN VARIOUS MARKETS IN SOME MARKETS ARE BOOKED THROUGH 2022 INTO 23 ALREADY.
IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF PROJECTS.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE PINE SAP FROM A LOG HOME BEFORE YOU RESTAIN IT?

I GUESS THE BEST ANSWER IS TO CONTACT A PAINTING OR STAINING PROFESSIONAL AND SEE WHAT THEY RECOMMEND, BECAUSE LIKE COHEN SAID IT'S A LITTLE BIT OUT OF THE PURVIEW ON WHAT WE DO ON THE NORMAL BASIS.

THERE ARE GOOD QUALITY SKYLIGHTS AND NOT SO GOOD QUALITY.
THE PLASTIC BUBBLES WE CALL THEM.
GENERALLY IT'S NOT THE SKYLIGHT ITSELF, GENERALLY THE FLASHINGS AROUND THEM.
TAR IS TEMPORARY, JUST REMEMBER THAT.
TAR CAN SOMETIMES HELP IF YOU HAVE A BUBBLE STYLE.
>> FOR A MOMENT.
>> USUALLY IS THE AGE OF YOUR ROOFING AND FLASHING.
NOT THE SKYLIGHTS FAULT.
THE ROOFING AND FLASHING HAVE AGED AND CAUSED A PROBLEM.
TREE DEBRIS, ICE, SNOW CAN OVER A PERIOD OF TIME BECAUSE LEAKS BIGGER USUALLY, IT'S THE AGE OF THE ROOF.
>> THE OTHER THING THAT CAN FREQUENTLY HAPPEN IS THE GLAZING BOOT BETWEEN THE GLASS AND THE TOP TRIM, THE ESCUTCHEON, WILL FAIL.
SOMETIMES WE WILL SEAL UP THE STEP FLASHING AND STILL HAVE A SO HEAVY LEAK.
SIMPLE BEAT OF CLEAR SILICONE WHERE IT MEETS THE ESCUTCHEON SOMETIME SOLVES THE PROBLEM.
WATER IS DIABOLICAL.
IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED IT ALWAYS WINS SPEED ISN'T THAT THE TRUTH?
>> IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, YOU CAN USUALLY SEE A WATER LINE.
IF IT'S COMING OFF THE GLASS YOU ARE SEEING LIKE A TRAIL OR COMING THROUGH THE DRYWALL OR TRIM AROUND IT YOU CAN KIND OF KNOW WHETHER IT'S THROUGH IT OR AROUND IT.

LOOK WHERE THE WATER GOES.
SPEAKING OF LEAKING, THEY CALL HER HAD A FRENCH DOOR INSTALLED IN THE BASEMENT AND IT'S LEAKING.
USUALLY WHEN IT RAINS.
ANY ADVICE FOR THEM?
>> WELL, DEPENDS ON HOW IT WAS INSTALLED.
TYPICALLY, WHEN WE INSTALL ANY EXTERIOR DOOR WE WILL DO WHAT WE'VE REFERRED TO AS A PAN UNDERNEATH, WHICH IS A DOUBLE WAY OF SEALING THIS THING UP WITH CLOCKS AND ALUMINUM UP THE SIDE.
IS IT COMING IN FROM UNDERNEATH, COMING IN WITH THE WEATHERSTRIPPING MEANS?
I GUESS THAT'S THE QUESTION.
THE OTHER QUESTION IS IS THAT A DOUBLES SWING FRENCH DOOR, WHICH ARE THE WORST, OR IS IT A SINGLE SWING?
SOMETIMES IT DEPENDS ON WHAT THAT IS AS TO WHERE THAT WATER IS COMING FROM.
>> OR I ALSO HEARD BASEMENT, WHICH IMPLIES THERE IS MAYBE AN ENTIRE STORY OR TWO OF SIDING ABOVE THAT DOOR, SO IT COULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE DOOR WHERE THE SIDING FROM ABOVE MEETS THAT TRIM AND MAYBE THERE'S NOT A FLASHING THERE THAT HELPS KICK THAT WATER OUT.
THAT'S A POSSIBILITY.
>> THE OTHER THING THAT CAN SOMETIMES GETS IGNORED AND HONESTLY AS SIMPLE IS THAT IF IT'S A VINYL SIDING AND THERE IS A J CHANNEL OR A SCEPTER CHANNEL THAT MEETS THE STORE, DID THEY CALL BEFORE THE J CHANNEL THE DOOR?

VISIBLE STRUCTURE FOUNDATION, PLUMBING, HEATING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.
DOORS, WINDOWS.
GET INSIDE THE ATTIC TO LOOK.
MAKE SURE THE ROOF DECKING, INSULATION, VENTILATION AND THE STRUCTURE IS IN GOOD SHAPE.
I TELL PEOPLE THAT IT'S A USED PRODUCT THAT'S GOING TO BE MINOR CRACKS AND SCRAPES AND DENTS IN MINOR THINGS THAT GO ON.
WE ARE CONCENTRATING ON THE MAJOR SYSTEMS.

WE HAVE A CALLER FROM WILLIAMSBURG TONIGHT.
THEY RECENTLY ADDED A SUB PUMP TO THE 70 -YEAR-OLD HOME.
IS IT OKAY TO PLUG IT INTO THE NEAREST OUTLET OR SHOULD THIS BE HARDWIRED?
>> THAT PROBABLY WILL WORK TO AN OUTLET, BUT I WOULD TELL YOU IF IT'S AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF YOUR HOME YOU MIGHT WANT A DEDICATED CIRCUIT WHERE AS YOU ARE NOT USING OTHER POWER ON THAT CIRCUIT THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FAULT AND NOT HAVE THE PUMP WORKING.
I DON'T KNOW HOW DESPERATE IT IS.
SOME PEOPLE TURN OFF THEIR SOME PUMPKINS AND 20 MONTHS THEY HAVE PROBLEMS.
CERTAINLY WHEN WE WOULD BUILD NEW WE MAKE SURE YOU HAD A DEDICATED CIRCUIT.

IN 2017 WE HAD PEOPLE WHOSE SUMP PUMPS WERE IN THE CROCK OF SMOKING, BOILING THE WATER.

I'M GOING TO SAY IT'S PROBABLY NOT A STRUCTURAL ISSUE SPEED BUT WHAT IF IT IS -- HIS.
>> BEING FROM 78, I'M GUESSING HOUSE PROBABLY BUILT.
TRADITIONAL WOOD FLOOR JOISTS, LIKELY A HALF INCH LAYER OF PLYWOOD AND POTENTIALLY 58 SLAYER OF A PARTICLEBOARD OVER TOP.
A LOT OF THAT TIME FRAME, IT SIMPLY COULD BE IT WASN'T GLUED, IT WAS JUST NAILED AND OVER TIME THESE THINGS HAVE MOVED AND WE'RE A LITTLE HOLE.
IF THE BASEMENT IS OPEN, ONE TRICK YOU CAN USE IS GO ALONG THE CHOICE WERE THE PLYWOOD ENJOYS COME TOGETHER AND YOU CAN READ A BEAD OF CONSTRUCTION SEALANT AND I WILL SOMETIMES SLOW LOWER DOWN.
DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU HAVE FOR FLOORING BUT CERTAINLY WHEN YOU CHANGE THE FLOOR AND INTO IN YOUR ROOM THAT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO GO THROUGH AND SCREW THAT OFF.
